Joint quality initiative
Lunch meeting Leuven, 26th November, 2001, summary of results
1. Progress thus far
- Leuven meeting on cross border visitation physics
- Bonn meeting Friday 14th December on concepts of accreditation
- Comments on the framework for action are mostly that it is useful in its
present form.
2. Cross border quality assessment
Discussed was the progress and the possibility of sharing experience with the
process by means of observers in case of no actual involvement.
Three subjects were indicated as subjects of particular interest for cross
border accreditation.
- Health Science at Fachhochshule level (ZEvA)
- Architecture and planning (ZEvA) (with involvement of a professional body,
national or European)
- History (VSNU)
ZEvA distributed a list of new bachelor and master programmes to be accredited
in the near future. The 5th week 2002 (end of January) ZEvA reserved for
discussions with peer teams on the nrs 29, 34 and 42 on their list: Biomedical
Engineering..., Physiotherapy, Nurse science...., Representatives that are
interested are welcome to participate1.
Actions to further joint initiatives:
- Quality assurance agencies will indicate their particular fields of
interest at their own web-site.
- A format will be provided to be used to list data on forthcoming
accreditations including participating countries and possible observers (Netherlands
and Flanders)2.
3. The web-site
The web-site for the joint quality initiative is not yet available. For the time
being a corner is made at the web-site of the ministry in the Netherlands. It
can only be reached by: www.minocw.nl/jointquality.
To open this up and for the future web-site, two questions, resulting in
actions:
- The working group is asked to agree to have their name and e-mail address
on the internet. Agreed, no problem (Netherlands and Flanders).
- Countries and quality assurance organisations are suggested to have
relevant documents or data available in such a way that they can be taken up
in the web-site or that a link can be made.
4. The conference, March 12-13 2002 on quality assurance, in particular
accreditation
The date is set at 12-13 March 2002; the place is not known yet.
Actions
- A draft programme will be distributed among the working group and
finalised before Christmas (Netherlands and Flanders).
- Common ground in bachelor and master descriptors is suggested to be part
of the conference programme. Preparation of this is taken up by the QAA with
those interested. Place and date could be Dublin 15th Februari, annex to a
launch meeting of the National Qualification Authority of Ireland (QAA with
NQA).
There being no more business the dessert could be enjoyed.
1) For more information please contact ZEvA
2) The format should also differentiate between quality
assessment geared to accreditation of new bachelor and master programmes, and
regular or specific quality assessment of on-going programmes.
