The
Netherlands
The Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO) was
formed by the Dutch and Flamish Government with the objective to
establish an accreditation system for all existing and new degree
courses in higher education. In view of the internationalization of
courses and the labour market, accreditation seeks to safeguard (comparable)
standards of quality for degree courses in higher education, with the
objective to:
-
create transparency in the education system;
-
ensure independent quality assessment;
-
enable international comparison between degree programmes;
-
enable foreign course providers to access the Dutch market;
-
continue to increase the quality of Dutch degree courses.
Accreditation by the NVAO is required for legally protected
degrees.
For the accrediting process the NVAO will rely on external
reviews prepared at the request of institutions by "validating"
organisations like NQA (which has become independent from the
hbo-council), the QANU which is also in a process of generating an
independent body to organise programme evaluations and others.
